Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade The process of upgrading an item, often referred to as “upping,” improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment gives a linear increase in a given stat. Players can recycle six items at one time to gain a gauge for each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling items increases depending on their rarity and level. Upgrade components A level upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can boost the power of your weapon and armor. This can be accomplished through a variety of methods, including by using upgrade components or by increasing an item's rarity or mark level. This isn't the actual amount at which glyphs can improve the stat, but rather the maximum amount it is able to do so. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the item you're enchanting it to. The majority of upgrade components that are added to items cannot be removed or replaced without dismantling them, with the exception of legendary upgrades and equipment. If, however, you have a non-useful rune or glyph that has not yet been applied to your gear, you can move it to another piece of equipment by utilizing the Upgrade Glyphs context menu on the Glyphs panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph. If you wish to remove a glyph from a piece of you must salvage it with a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. The item on which the glyph is located will be destroyed, but the upgraded item can be retrieved with the glyph shards. If you take an item off after adding a glyph, the shards that are part of the glyph will disappear. You can also put an inscription to your equipment to increase its value. This will provide the item with a significant upgrade value. The bonus effect will change with each upgrade level. In general the upgrade effect is increased by a value of +3. Based on the item's level of base and upgrade path, the iLevel of the upgraded item will change too.
